When experts thought it couldn’t be done, ServiceNow Inc. dominated as an information technology help desk platform to blow through market limitations to take on additional lines of business. As ServiceNow strives to hit the $5-billion valuation mark, can this enterprise software powerhouse take on its new competitors across its newly targeted markets and maintain attentive customer service as it scales?
Looking to answer these and other questions, SiliconANGLE is at ServiceNow Knowledge18, currently underway in Las Vegas, Nevada. With exclusive commentary and interviews from our roving news desk, theCUBE broadcasts live from Tuesday, May 8, to Thursday, May 10. (* Disclosure below.)
Kicking off a decade ago as a startup in IT help desk management, ServiceNow had the foresight to build a highly flexible platform with integrated, change management solutions able to evolve with customer needs over time. Deemed the fastest-growing software as a service platform with over $1 billion in revenue from services, ServiceNow is the “next powerhouse of enterprise software, and doing a phenomenal job,” according to Wikibon analyst Dave Vellante (Wikibon is owned by the same parent company as SiliconANGLE).
Succeeding in its first growth phase, ServiceNow flourished under the leadership of then chairman and CEO Frank Slootman, launching an IPO in 2012. Simplifying IT support processes that may have once taken four people to complete, ServiceNow specializes in automating the non-productive aspects of business.
“The core of ServiceNow is IT people, transforming their own teams to become substantially more responsive to customers and continue to succeed wildly,” Vellante said.
That continued success will rely on an expansion to ServiceNow’s lines of business, delving into human resources, marketing and security. These ancillary businesses significantly grow ServiceNow’s total available market, particularly for an enterprise world keen on digital transformations, but introduce the challenges that come with scaling a business built on customer service. With new chief executive officer and president John Donahoe at the helm, ServiceNow must navigate new waters swimming with tactical rivals, such as Zendesk Inc., Surewell Equities Inc., IBM Maximo, the HPE-owned Micro Focus and BMC Remedy.
To remain competitive, ServiceNow is seeking the help of innovative technologies in artificial intelligence and machine learning to boost its expertise in automated solutions. Key acquisitions this year alone include SaaS provider VendorHawk and Parlor, an AI workforce solution.
Speakers at Knowledge 2018 include John Donahoe, president and CEO at ServiceNow; CJ Desai, chief product officer at ServiceNow; Pat Casey, senior vice president and general manager for ServiceNow’s platform business unit; Sean Convery, vice president and general manager for ServiceNow’s Security and Risk division; Deepak Bharadwaj, vice president and general manager for ServiceNow’s HR Product Line; Abhijit Mitra, vice president and general manager for ServiceNow’s Customer Service Management; Farrell Hough, vice president and general manager for ServiceNow’s ITSM, ITBM and ITAM; and Karel Van Der Poel, vice president and general manager for ServiceNow’s Future Products unit.
