With new European privacy regulations scheduled to take effect this week, the time is ripe for data management companies that manage compliance needs across multiple cloud platforms. Informatica LLC, which offers integration software for cloud data management, appears to be in a good position to take full advantage of the General Data Protection Regulation that is about to become reality for any company with data on European citizens.
“They’ve got a tailwind; they’ve got great timing with GDPR,” said John Furrier (@furrier), co-host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio. “You couldn’t think of a better time to showcase engineering data governance and application integration across clouds than now.”
Furrier spoke with Peter Burris (@plburris) and James Kobielus (@jameskobielus), co-hosts of theCUBE, during the Informatica World event in Las Vegas. They discussed recent cloud integration news, the significance of Informatica’s partnerships, and the company’s focus on data as an asset. (* Disclosure below.)
In addition to the pending impact of GDPR, Informatica is also riding a wave of key strategic partnerships with major cloud providers, such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google to strengthen its hand in the enterprise cloud. The company announced on Tuesday a preview of Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services, or IICS, natively running on Azure.
“The most important new announcements at this show were all about further integration of the new IICS into the Azure cloud,” Kobielus said. “That was quite important, but there was a lot of showing by AWS here too.”
In November, the company released an expanded set of artificial intelligence-driven data management solutions for AWS. And on Wednesday, Informatica released high-volume mass ingestion capability to compliment it’s CLAIRE-based Intelligent Structure Discovery solution.
“The thing that has distinguished Informatica for years is that it always was a company that sought to serve underserved data requirements,” Burris said. “Informatica has always tried to be one step ahead of the needs of hardcore data people. They are introducing a portfolio that is very focused on the next round’s needs.”
