C3 IoT’s industrial ‘internet of things’ platform lands on Google’s cloud

Industrial “internet of things” startup C3 Inc., usually known as C3 IoT, is teaming up with Google LLC to deploy its platform-as-a-service on Google’s public cloud infrastructure.

Founded in 2009 by Chairman and Chief Executive Thomas M. Siebel, C3 IoT offers an enterprise platform-as-a-service for artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, big data and other IoT software applications.

The platform is geared toward workloads that process data from connected devices, especially industrial equipment. It also provides analytics services to provide insights from machine-generated data.

C3 IoT said its key differentiator is its “model-driven AI architecture” that’s manifested through the C3 Type System. The architecture enables “reusable microservices,” which in turn allow algorithms, applications and data structures written in different programming languages and with various computational models to interoperate with one another, without any knowledge of the underlying cloud infrastructure components or services.

The company also provides tools to simplify the development of new AI-based applications in a “low-code” environment, which means even those with no coding skills should be able to get on with it.

Siebel offered more information about the C3 IoT platform when he appeared on SiliconANGLE’s mobile livestreaming studio theCUBE during last year’s AWS re:Invent 2017 conference:

The collaboration with Google means that C3 IoT now can run on all of the “big three” infrastructure-as-a-service companies. C3 IoT landed on Amazon Web Services Inc. at launch, and later became available on Microsoft Corp.’s Azure cloud. And thanks to a partnership with Intel Corp. announced in May, C3 IoT’s platform can also be run on-premises using a special appliance.

“Bringing advanced AI and machine learning capabilities to IoT can unlock powerful insights for customers,” said Nan Boden, head of global technology partnerships at Google Cloud. “C3 IoT’s expertise in industries like manufacturing, retail, financial services and more will be a tremendous asset to help customers do just that.”

The companies said they plan to work together to market and sell the platform, and train customers to scale various projects.
