Alibaba Cloud teams up with NeuVector to boost Kubernetes container security

Kubernetes security startup NeuVector Inc.’s container firewall technology has been validated by Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.’s Alibaba Cloud, which is now using the system to safeguard containerized workloads running on its public cloud infrastructure.

NeuVector provides a security platform for companies that use Kubernetes to manage their container deployments. Kubernetes is an open-source container orchestrator that has become the de facto software for managing such deployments. The containers themselves are a way to package software applications so they can run inside any information technology environment and on any hardware.

Alibaba Cloud said today it’s now implementing NeuVector’s technology in its Container Service for Kubernetes offering, which is a service that manages the underlying infrastructure for Kubernetes-based container applications.

NeuVector’s tech secures containers in three ways. First, its firewall can detect abnormal connections within the network. Second, it provides runtime vulnerability scanning to spot threats as they appear. Third, it comes with threat protection capabilities that can shut down any compromised software container as soon as it’s spotted.

“NeuVector is the leading container security platform that supports Alibaba Cloud public and private cloud customers during their entire container deployment lifecycle,” said Daibin Ge, a senior security expert at Alibaba Cloud. “The unique multivector security platform provides in-depth network visibility and protection combined with container attack detection and vulnerability scanning. We are pleased to work with the NeuVector team to enable confident Kubernetes and Docker container deployments.”
