Enterprise cloud consultant opens new channels of communication in tech community

When Chris Williams (pictured), enterprise cloud consultant at GreenPages Technology Solutions, was awarded the vExpert Cloud Specialist designation by VMware Inc. in 2017, he expressed his passion for learning new skills and sharing his knowledge with others.

That passion has carried over into a number of advanced cloud computing areas, amplified by his dialogue with infrastructure specialists and developer operations staff who were brought together at the recent VTUG Winter Warmer event in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

“We’re here to learn about not just what’s happening today, but what’s going to keep us relevant in the future, what new things are coming down the pipe,” Williams said. “A lot of that is bending toward the things that I’m interested in.”

Williams spoke with Stu Miniman (@stu), host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, during VTUG Winter Warmer. They discussed the projects capturing Williams interest and his plans to open new channels of communication within the enterprise cloud community.

Expanding infrastructure knowledge

Williams’ forward-looking interests seek to bridge both the infrastructure and DevOps communities. He expressed a desire to take his own infrastructure knowledge and parlay that into the DevOps framework, along with a focus on Python to teach infrastructure material.

“In our world, that infrastructure person who’s been deploying manually virtual machines, there’s a piece of code that will do that for them now,” Williams said. “They’ve got to know how to modify and refactor that piece of code and get good at that.”

In addition to his work at GreenPages, an information technology transformation and hybrid cloud services provider, Williams is actively working to reshape the VTUG website with a goal to feature more user-supplied content.

“I’m going to start doing a ‘Learn AWS’ on the VTUG blog so people can begin ramping up on some of the basics,” said Williams, who also described recent research on cloud management that he believed would add value for the community. “I’m excited to showcase some of that on the website.”
