Alcide debuts Kubernetes scanning tool to beef up DevOps security

Cloud-native security firm Alcid.IO Ltd., better known as Alcide, today added what it calls a “continuous security and hygiene scanner” for Kubernetes and Istio to its toolkit.

Alcide Advisor is designed to provide an automatic scan of applications deployed in Kubernetes and Istio for various compliance, security and governance risks before they’re moved into production. The idea is to ensure the integrity of new app deployments without compromising on DevOps agility.

The new scanner complements Alcide’s “full stack cloud-native security platform,” a key component of which is a machine learning-driven microservices firewall that gives developers a simple way to define, apply and enforce security policies for their cloud-based applications.

Alcide’s security tools primarily cater to DevOps teams who build cloud-native apps based on Kubernetes, which is an open-source software tool used to manage container-based apps that can be built once and run on any kind of computing platform.

“With Alcide Advisor engineering teams can rest assured that the apps they build are deployed and monitored in a secure manner; while DevOps teams benefit from a fast, automated and secured deployments; and cloud architects can stay on top of every change, risk or new user introduced to the system,” the company said.

Alcide Advisor simplifies security assessments by providing a single-pane view of all potential risks to Kubernetes deployments, covering auditing, topology and network policies. The tool fully integrates with companies’ continuous integration/continuous development pipelines, and automatically performs its work in the background so developers can just focus on writing their apps, and receive alerts if any security problems arise.

“By combining the worlds of DevOps with Kubernetes security, teams can now leverage the agility, speed, security and scale of cloud-native development, without sacrificing security, development flexibility or business velocity,” said Alcide co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Gadi Naor.

Alcide said it will demonstrate Alcide Advisor at the KubeCon event taking place in Barcelona next week.
