Boomi spins integration money-maker into data privacy, analytics
Do you know what your company’s data is doing right this minute? Who is accessing it? Is it secure? What does it have to say about the state of business, customers, future trends? It could take an armful of data-monitoring and analytics tools to answer all of these questions. Is there less labor-intensive means to keep an eye on data in the present moment?
The benefit of putting all or most data on one platform is that it gives you one window through which to view it, according to Michael Morton (pictured), chief technology officer of Boomi Inc., a Dell Technologies Inc. company. A platform that integrates a company’s data and applications can also do duty in the areas of analytics and data privacy and security.
“Data is a living ecosystem; it never stops; it’s always in motion; it’s hard to manage; it’s hard to observe,” Morton said. Boomi is basically the engine of that living ecosystem. It can get instant insight into that ecosystem that human eyes alone cannot get, he added.
Morton spoke with John Furrier (@furrier) and Lisa Martin (@LisaMartinTV), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, during the Boomi World event in Washington, D.C. They discussed how the Boomi platform is spinning into data privacy and analytics (see the full interview with transcript here). (* Disclosure below.)
Platform sets periscope on diverse data
The i in Boomi’s integration platform as a service is evolving from integration to intelligence. The all-encompassing platform has its feelers out to coming and going traffic at all times, Morton explained. This makes it uniquely able to answer important questions about it.
What are data privacy and security after all? “It’s getting your arms around the movement of your data. So it just was a perfect fit for an integration platform as a service to expose, in a much different way, where is the data about your business actually coming and going?” Morton stated.
In fact, it is not outside the realm of possibility to show users who is accessing data at any given time. Boomi is still deciding whether it will bake in privacy features or charge separately for them.
The company also wants to bring forth analytics features, since integration of data and apps makes the platform fertile ground for insights. “Analytics is really about taking multiple sources of data, putting it in one place, and mining it for new insights,” Morton concluded.
