Aqua Security buys CloudSploit to expand into cloud security posture management

Container security startup Aqua Security Software Ltd. today revealed that it has acquired cloud security-as-a-service startup CloudSploit LLC for an undisclosed price.

Founded in 2015 and based in the Washington D.C. area, CloudSploit’s SaaS platform offers open-source and hosted automated security and configuration monitoring software for Amazon Web Services Inc. and Microsoft Corp. Azure cloud environments. Originally started as an open-source project, CloudSploit branched out into hosted services that are designed to allow customers to monitor their public cloud accounts quickly.

The service is said to provide visibility of all cloud resources while reducing threats from misconfiguration and vulnerabilities by automatically managing cloud security risk. In addition, the service benchmarks cloud setups against industry standards to ensure compliance.

For Aqua Security, the acquisition adds cloud security posture management to its existing Aqua Container Security Platform. Launched in 2016, the tool is designed for securing containerized environments while offering users greater control over the security and compliance needs of their software containers, which are used to enable applications to be run on multiple computing systems, data centers and the cloud.

Since launching its security platform, Aqua has also added significant new capabilities to deepen protection of virtual machines.

The acquisition of CloudSploit is Aqua’s second after the company purchased Trivy Vulnerability Scanner, an open-source container scanning tool, for an undisclosed price in August.

The two acquisitions may not be the last for the Aqua, since the company well-supported with venture capital, having raised $62 million in a Series C round in April. The round was led by Insight Partners and included Lightspeed Venture Partners, M12, TLV Partners and Shlomo Kramer. Aqua has raised more than $100 million to date.
