Tableau Software and AWS announce new cloud migration program

Tableau Software Inc. is cozying up to Amazon Web Services Inc. with the launch of a new initiative called Modern Cloud Analytics Tuesday.

MCA combines Tableau’s analytics, migration and integration tools with the scale and performance of AWS’ cloud infrastructure. The idea is to help enterprises adopt a new, cloud-based analytics strategy by migrating data and workloads to AWS, the companies said.

The new service builds upon Tableau’s existing integrations with AWS, such as its native data connectors for Amazon services such as its Redshift and Athena databases, and its AWS Quick Start deployment guide. According to the companies, MCA encompasses a set of guiding principles and proven methodologies for migrating data to AWS, with an aim to help customers deploy “self-service analytics” in the cloud.

“Organizations must continuously evaluate their data strategy to remain competitive and deliver impactful customer experiences,” Doug Yeum, head of worldwide channels and alliances for AWS, said in a statement.

Tableau said the first phase of MCA involves helping customers migrate their workloads to AWS. It added that its working with third parties, including InterWorks, Slalom and TEKsystems, to help customers with that.

In a busy day of announcements, Tableau also revealed a number of other partner integrations. They include new connectors for deploying Tableau on Alibaba Cloud and a new extension for machine learning company DataRobot Inc. that enables joint customers publish AI predictions as an accessible Tableau data source. Tableau also announced new integrations with the data warehouse company Yellowbrick Inc., cloud analytics firm Kyvos Insights, location data firm Mapbox Inc. and artificial intelligence software company Narrative Science.

Finally, Tableau launched a newly redesigned partner network, broken out into three tracks – Reseller, Services and Technology — which Tableau said are better aligned with its core partner business models.
