Built on AWS, Druva helps customers navigate through business and technology change

Being a software-as-a-service platform built on Amazon Web Services Inc., Druva Inc. has come to fully appreciate the change that migration to a cloud infrastructure can bring.

Druva relies on the AWS platform to help its customers manage data from end-to-end, and its growth as a company has provided a valuable perspective on the impact of cloud for its own clients.

“It’s not just a technology change,” said Jaspreet Singh (pictured, left), founder and chief executive officer of Druva. “Public cloud is a business change as well. You have to understand how to build differently, operate differently from a security and cost point of view, and sell differently.”

Singh spoke with Justin Warren (@jpwarren) and John Walls (@JohnWalls21), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, during the AWS re:Invent event in Las Vegas. He was joined by Isaiah Weiner (pictured, right), principal technologist at Amazon Web Services Inc., and they discussed how Druva helps customers adopt a less-complex data management model and the company’s recent positive revenue results. Less to manage

By basing its model on the AWS cloud, Druva has enabled customers to eliminate a great deal of the cost and complexity associated with storage, libraries of tape, or other infrastructure needed to handle data management.

“One of the things that customers tell us when they come to the cloud is they want less stuff to manage,” Weiner explained. “Because Druva is all in on AWS, it gives us an opportunity to launch things together. I would say that Druva has done things the hard way so that customers can do things the easy way.”

Druva’s difficult path to success is showing signs of paying off. The company announced today that it had surpassed $100 million in annual recurring revenue.

“Druva is hitting scale now,” Singh said. “Technology for SaaS is only the first barrier. What Amazon has done for the industry, which we are following the example of, is show how to transform the buying ways of customers with something radically simpler than ever before.”
