StrongSalt Open Privacy API allows searching and sharing of encrypted data

Cloud-based encryption software company StrongSalt today announced its Open Privacy application programming interface for searching and sharing encrypted data in cloud services and enterprise applications.

The company’s first major announcement since it raised $3 million in seed funding in September, the API has been designed to allow searching and use of encrypted data without the need for the data to be decrypted, meaning that it’s not exposed to risks. StrongSalt claims the service opens the potential for mass adoption of encryption by allowing for both security and accessibility to coexist.

StrongSalt’s encryption as a service offers a range of features allowing developers to build data protection into any application or workflow including a decentralized searchable and shareable encryption protocol and a blockchain-agnostic immutable and trusted distributed ledger to support an audit trail. Because data remains encrypted, the service preserves business and consumer privacy.

“All data breaches today have one thing in common: the data was not encrypted. Many organizations do not ‘turn on’ encryption because of the friction and complexity it causes, rendering the data unsearchable, unsharable – and ultimately unusable,” the company previously told SiliconANGLE. “StrongSalt is solving the fundamental problem of data privacy by building the world’s first always-on searchable encryption infrastructure through APIs that are simple enough for any developer to use, yet secure enough to power the world’s most demanding applications.”

The Open Privacy API is freely available via StrongSalt as well as on the AWS Marketplace. The Open Privacy API will be first demonstrated at a private event during the AWS re:Invent conference in Las Vegas on Dec. 3 and 4.

The founder and head of StrongSalt, Ed Yu, formerly the founding engineer of security firm FireEye Inc., spoke to SiliconANGLE’s theCUBE at the AWS re:Inforce security conference in June about the company’s plans:
