Enterprise DevOps company CloudBees Inc. has joined the software-as-a-service club with the preview release of its Jenkins X continuous integration/continuous delivery product on Google Cloud Platform.

CloudBees announced what is its first SaaS product at the Jenkins World/DevOps World conference taking place this week in Lisbon, Portugal. The new release is currently in preview, with general availability planned for the first half of next year.

The open source Jenkins platform that CloudBees develops is a popular CI/CD tool, used by software developers to test code for any bugs and other problems while it’s being written and deployed. Jenkins X, launched in 2018, is a more featured version of the basic open source Jenkins, adding in comprehensive support for continuous delivery and development environments running in Kubernetes, which is a tool used to manage software containers that host the components of modern, flexible applications.

CloudBees’ decision to go with Google is not that much of a surprise as it already enjoys a strong relationship with the internet giant. CloudBees was notably a launch partner for Google’s new Cloud Run serverless infrastructure platform, announced last month, and the Google Cloud Marketplace is chock-a-block full of CloudBees’ products.

The company said CloudBees CI/CD powered by Jenkins X gives developers a “full cloud native experience for the build-test-deploy lifecycle” and means they don’t need to worry about devoting time to managing infrastructure resources. In addition, CloudBees has added a new graphical user interface for Jenkins X, so developers can now choose between using that or the older command line interface.

“Our customers are increasingly looking to accelerate their application development lifecycle in modern hybrid environments,” Pali Bhat, vice president of product and design at Google Cloud, said in a statement. “CloudBees CI/CD powered by Jenkins X, is built with robust integrations into Google Cloud Platform infrastructure. Therefore, customers will be able to leverage the offering with native Google Cloud service capabilities.”
