Scope AR acquires augmented reality toolset company WakingApp

Enterprise-class augmented reality platform developer Scope AR announced today the acquisition of WakingApp Ltd., an AR technology company based in Tel Aviv that creates AR tools and experiences for businesses.

Scope AR will retain six of WakingApp’s founding members and intends to integrate the resources and expertise of the company to build the next generation of Scope AR’s augmented reality platform, WorkLink.

Scott Montgomerie, co-founder and chief executive of Scope AR, said it has seen a lot of enterprises adopt AR. “With that growth comes more knowledge of what our customers need to successfully build AR into their business,” he said. “The WakingApp team brings a great mix of AR development experience and creative thinking to Scope AR as we continue to evolve our WorkLink platform to meet our customers’ current and future needs.”

WakingApp produces a cutting-edge AR platform developed with technologies that assist enterprise customers across industries create AR experiences that fit their business needs. This acquisition by Scope AR will expand the company’s capabilities and resources even more rapidly in order to push the boundaries of WorkLink as the enterprise AR market continues to mature.

WorkLink is Scope AR’s flagship product and an AR knowledge platform that provides real-time remote assistance access to pre-built AR work instructions simultaneously in one application. With Scope AR and an augmented reality headset or mobile device, workers can rapidly access knowledge, displayed as an overlay on their field of view, that bridges the distance between field technicians and experts at workstations.

“In general, the real value of enterprise AR is delivering contextually relevant information to a worker so that they have the right information at the right time to perform a task most effectively,” Montgomerie told SiliconANGLE in an email. “Having this intuitive, real-time knowledge overlaid onto the real world also reduces overhead and minimizes errors because workers are no longer having to do mental mapping from paper instructions.”

To make this effective, Montgomerie added, the key requirements include effective authoring tools designed to easily create work instruction content – WakingApp develops such a tool – and a mechanism for remotely connecting to someone who can provide guidance in real-time. That’s what WorkLink does.

Use cases for this type of technology can be found in the field and all around the factory floor. That includes manufacturing, where AR can provide insights, step-by-step instructions and substantially reduce overhead in providing information to workers. In factory maintenance, high-turnover front-line workers can receive the information they need to resolve issues and perform tasks with less training needed. Also, in industrial equipment where AR can enable owners of said equipment can receive guidance on resolving issues more intuitively.
