Code security startup BluBracket raises $6.5M, debuts product suite

Code security startup BluBracket Inc. today said it has raised $6.5 million in funding and debuted its security solution product suite as well.

The seed round was lead by Unusual Ventures and included Point72 Ventures, SignalFire and Firebolt Ventures. Founded in 2019, BluBracket has designed a security product, the BluBracket Code Security Suite that analyzes code in what the company describes as the first comprehensive security solution for code in the enterprise.

The suite combines enterprise security with developer-friendly technology to allow enterprise users to discover and classify code while also detecting and monitoring risks. The suite allows companies to run a “BluPrint” of their Git environments to understand where their code is and who has access to it while also classifying critical code for detailed chain of custody information for any compliance or audit needs.

In detecting code, the suite is said to detect secrets in code, misconfigurations and other risks and ensure that no sensitive passwords or tokens are being misappropriated, mishandled or misused. The suite also provides visibility to code, providing alerts and remediation that offers suggestions to protect code investment from both insider and outside code theft or unauthorized publishing to open source.

The BluBracket Code Security Suite offers support for GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Slack, Servicenow, Jira, Splunk and Docker.

“Just as we’ve seen hackers exploit tools like email, they are now exploiting code and code-sharing tools like GitHub,” Prakash Linga, chief executive officer of BluBracket, said in a statement. “For many companies, their intellectual property is now encased within code, not documents. Until now there hasn’t been a tool to secure code that doesn’t interfere with developers’ productivity.”

The company is demonstrating its product suite at the RSA Conference 2020 in San Francisco starting Feb. 24. BluBracket was named as a top 10 finalist in the RSA Sandbox Innovation Contest, a competition that highlights “cybersecurity’s boldest new innovators who have made it their mission to minimize risk.”
