Workplace collaboration startup Air raises $6M

Workplace collaboration startup Air Labs Inc. said today it has raised $6 million in funding to build out its cloud storage solutions and also announced the launch of its new software.

The seed round was led by Lerer Hippeau Ventures and included RedSea Ventures, Advancit Capital, WndrCo and a group of strategic investors including ChenLi Wang, Todd Jackson and Kyle Parrish, all formerly executives at Dropbox Inc.

Founded in 2017, Air has designed a workplace collaboration tool that is described as acting like a search engine and “Slack” for digital assets. The new end-to-end software product is designed to help “communicators” in fields such as marketing, sales, and partnerships where visual collaboration is critical but their creative assets are hidden across cloud storage.

The platform allows teams to optimize their creative process by importing images and videos from Dropbox or Google Drive on signup. Manual tasks are replaced with an automated structure that is complemented with seamless workflow tools enabling sharing, commenting and instant collaboration.

The company charges $10 per user per month and claims that 95% of customers migrate from Dropbox, Box Inc. and Google Drive.

Its end-to-end software offering launched as a closed pilot in 2019 and has grown organically to manage over five million digital assets for over 100 teams in consumer products, goods and services, sports, media, retail, and hospitality. Clients include GlamSquad Inc., The Infatuation Inc., Dukes BasketBall, NeueHouse LLC, National Basketball Players Association, Spring Place, Thuma Co. and Industrious LLC.

“The need for great media management tools has never been greater,” investor and adviser Todd Jackson, former vice president of product at Dropbox, said in a statement. “Because of the internet and social media, every company needs to produce compelling visual content on a daily basis, and Air is the most elegant, modern tool for today’s companies.”
