Veritas InfoScale builds software-defined bridge between applications and infrastructure

Over his years in the tech industry, Joseph D’Angelo (pictured) thought he had seen it all.

The chief architect of cloud resiliency solutions at Veritas Technologies LLC had just completed a large application migration and deployment project for a major state agency on a Friday afternoon. By Sunday morning, his phone was ringing off the hook with panicked phone calls.

When D’Angelo finally reached a lone supervisor, he learned that nothing was wrong with the Veritas deployment, but there were going to be some immediate issues over who would run it in the information-technology department.

“He said that the team would be ‘calling in rich’ Monday morning,” D’Angelo recalled. “The entire IT staff hit the Mega Millions jackpot. I use that story because it addresses the fact that disasters come in many different flavors and your people are always the most critical asset.”

D’Angelo spoke with Stu Miniman, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, at theCUBE’s studio in Boston, Massachusetts. They discussed how Veritas solutions help customers manage complicated infrastructure tools and the role of InfoScale in providing cross-platform app and data migration. (* Disclosure below.)

Decoupling apps from the chaos

When they are not “calling in rich,” IT teams are confronted with a complicated set of network solutions that require constant management. Cloud, hyperconverged infrastructure, physical and virtual environments, along with a multitude of storage options all combine to paint a complicated picture.

“One of the foundational tenets of availability solutions at Veritas is we give customers the ability to decouple all of their applications from all the chaos that’s in their infrastructure,” D’Angelo explained. “They can run their application where they need to run it, when they need to run it and be confident that it will be performing.”

Veritas delivers its wide range of enterprise solutions through InfoScale, the company’s software-defined bridge between tier-one applications and infrastructure. The appeal for customers is to escape locked proprietary solutions or technologies that don’t have cloud equivalency.

“With InfoScale, we allow them to replicate data anywhere they want to go,” D’Angelo said. “We can go from physical storage on-premises into the public cloud across any variety of different tiers of storage that exist there. This works not just from a data set standpoint, but the application as well. If you can tell me how to start it, how to stop it, how to monitor it, we can put it into InfoScale.”
