Sysdig brings its monitoring capabilities to IBM’s public cloud

Container security startup Sysdig Inc. today expanded its integration with IBM Corp. to include the breadth of its cloud services, infrastructure and application development tools.

The expanded integration gives admins and developers access to a fully managed, enterprise-grade monitoring service that spans IBM’s entire public cloud portfolio.

Sysdig sells tools for securing container environments that are used to host modern software applications that can run on any computing platform. Its main product is what it calls a cloud-native intelligence platform that helps manage large deployments of containers. It does so by listing the different network connections to each instance within a cluster, displaying the traffic each one handles and the bandwidth being used.

The company had previously partnered with IBM with its IBM Cloud Kubernetes service, and the extended support adds new capabilities for managing application and infrastructure complexities, identifying threats and addressing any problems that occur during the software lifecycle. Now, users can access a single user interface that consolidates monitoring metrics such as response times and performance, for all of the IBM public cloud services they use.

They will also be able to benefit from Sysdig’s native compatibility with the open-source Prometheus container monitoring tool. It provides additional monitoring capabilities by collecting metrics at specific intervals, comparing and evaluating that data against established rules, and then triggering an alarm should something go awry.

IBM said the new integration will be of most benefit to developers of cloud-native applications, since they tend to be more complex than traditional apps, generating massive volumes of data that must be correlated and contextualized in order to monitor their health.

“As enterprises increasingly migrate workloads to the public cloud, they need a simple and efficient way to monitor performance and availability across their infrastructure, applications and services,” said Jason McGee, vice president and chief technology officer for IBM Cloud Platform at IBM.

The companies said IBM Cloud Monitoring with Sysdig is available now across all regions where IBM Cloud can be accessed.
