Edenor streamlines network, system integration using new data platform
As the largest electricity company in Argentina, Edenor S.A. must constantly think outside the box when providing optimal services to its 3 million industrial, commercial, and residential customers. So, when growth in online transactions and local area network integrations led to issues with data quality, viability, and performance two years ago, the company went in search of an effective data integration platform.
“The growth added complexity to our system platform. We needed an integration platform that could take Edenor to the next stage,” said María Alejandra Trozzi (pictured), deputy manager of solutions architecture at Edenor. Specifically, Edenor needed to reduce the duration and frequency of outages and resolve issues faster.
Edenor found Red Hat’s enterprise solutions and realized that both its technical products and experience in the region were a perfect match for the company’s specific requirements, allowing it to standardize using Red Hat open-source technology, including Red Hat Integration, integration and messaging technologies that connect applications and data across hybrid infrastructures.
Trozzi spoke with Stu Miniman, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile live streaming studio, during the Red Hat Summit Virtual Experience. They discussed obstacles Edenor faced, its vendor evaluation process, and how Red Hat’s cloud-based solutions enabled it to improve data quality and customer service. (* Disclosure below.)
Pilot phase leads to real-time, reliable data company-wide
An important part of Edenor’s digital transformation was finding a supportive partner that provided both the necessary technology and learning support, starting from a pilot phase through total integration.
“We started with an initial pilot phase, where we chose some initial services that were not so complicated, not so complex,” said Trozzi, adding that the goal was to first try out the services and learn from them before rolling out the platform company-wide.
The initial pilot test allowed Trozzi’s team to effectively test the platform and assess its scalability. The next step was to review integrations and data flow to determine which were most critical for the business.
“We agreed with the solutions team and the business team where to start making real changes,” Trozzi explained.
This led to the implementation of trial methodologies and, eventually, real-time data access across all teams and regions, as well as scalable integration to support 800,000 daily events, Trozzi concluded.
