Jobcase relies on CloudHealth to manage tech during challenging time for frontline workers

The global pandemic has impacted the U.S. workforce in ways that could never have been imagined barely three months ago. It has also increased reliance on employment sites such as Jobcase Inc., a free open-access social media platform with over 100 million registered members.

In April, Jobcase announced the launch of virtual hiring events where employers could interact directly with job candidates from any industry.

“We’ve been working with frontline workers for a number of years, helping them secure jobs,” said Patrick Hetherton (pictured), vice president of TechOps at Jobcase. “About 80 to 85% of our members don’t have advanced degrees. We get 25 million visitors a month, and we’re trying to help those frontline workers navigate through these challenging times.”

Hetherton spoke with Stu Miniman, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed his role in the organization, how CloudHealth helps manage cost, and the need for better software integration. (* Disclosure below.)

Managing TechOps and costs

Jobcase was founded five years ago, and its information-technology operation has grown considerably since then. Hetherton’s role is to manage technical operations or TechOps for an expanding infrastructure.

“It basically meant everything that the developers weren’t doing from a technology side,” Hetherton said. “It was more of IT onboarding and security.”

His onboarding responsibilities led Hetherton to implement tools, such as the CloudHealth Cloud Management Platform, to gain a better understanding of costs and help educate users internally. CloudHealth allows organizations to analyze and manage cloud cost, usage, security, and governance in a single place.

“Cloud is one of our biggest bills for Jobcase, so we wanted to have an understanding there,” Hetherton explained. “We rolled out CloudHealth to all the users so they could see how much each program was costing. Engineers can see how much each application costs to run.”

Managing a growing IT operation means having to juggle multiple tools and technologies. Does Hetherton have a wish list for solutions to make his job easier in this challenging climate?

“It’s better integration between all the programs,” Hetherton said. “You worry about technology sprawl, from application monitoring to system monitoring to cost monitoring. If a program does 80% but it integrates with other programs, then we’re going to use that over one that’s maybe 90, 95%, just for ease of use and implementation.”
