Emergency response technology startup RapidSOS Inc. revealed today that it has raised $21 million in new funding to expand globally.
The Series C round was led by Transformation Capital and included C5 Capital, Laerdal Million Lives Fund and a number of existing investors.
Founded in 2012, RapidSOS connects data from millions of connected devices directly to 911 and first responders in an emergency providing faster, more effective responses to emergency calls. The company’s technology can tap into health, connected building, wearable, telematics and other critical data to assist first responders in having relevant information at hand.
RapidSOS’ emergency response data platform links life-saving data from more than 350 million connected devices and mobile apps directly to 911 and first responders, sharing real-time information such as a caller’s name, location and opt-in health information. This data is said to be critical to helping 911 centers accelerate response especially in emergencies where it’s challenging for the caller to speak.
The company’s platform is currently being used to connect first responders over some 4,700 public safety agencies with coverage of over 90 percent of the U.S. population with 150 million emergencies a year. RapidSOS also works in partnership with a range of companies that provide 911 call support services including Callyo 2009 Corp, Carbyne Ltd., Mark43 Inc. and Motorola Solutions Inc..
RapidSOS is also developing a new data source called with Emergency Health Profile in conjunction with the American Red Cross, American Health Association and Direct Relief. According to TechCrunch, the service will allow people to opt into sharing more background health information to first responders by creating a profile associated with a person’s mobile number.
“First responders are doing incredible work during this unprecedented pandemic,” said Michael Martin, chief executive officer of RapidSOS. “With this funding, we can further connect health information from the patient in need to first responders on scene, all the way to hospital systems.”
Including the new funding, RapidSOS has raised $107 million to date. Previous investors include Energy Impact Partners, Avanta Ventures, CSAA Insurance Group, Forte Ventures, Playground Global, The Westly Group, Alumni Ventures Group, Highland Capital Partners, Two Sigma Ventures and Microsoft’s M12.
