Google Cloud announces three new marquee customers

Google LLC announced a hat trick of customer wins today that showcases the growing strength of its public cloud computing services.

The new customers include Indian information technology services giant Wipro Ltd., which said today it’s planning to upgrade its core enterprise resource planning system to SAP SE’s S/4HANA and migrate those workloads to Google Cloud.

Wipro said it will benefit from the “increased flexibility and scalability” provided by Google Cloud. The company is also planning to adopt Google’s G Suite productivity platform for some of its employees in order to take advantage of its security and real-time collaboration tools.

Wipro said the moves are part of its ongoing internal transformation program, called Project Quantum, which aims to simplify and add visibility to the way the company works.

“As a provider of digital transformation services to some of the world’s most impactful businesses, it is critical that our own core systems and technologies are running on intelligent and modern platforms that encompass the needs of the future,” said Wipro President and Chief Operating Officer Bhanumurthy B.M. “This transformation program will help us to run our most business-critical workloads and applications with speed and agility, and support our customers more effectively.”

Meanwhile, Keurig Dr Pepper Inc. said it will use the Google Cloud platform to host its “data footprint” as part of its digital transformation efforts.

The beverage company said it began working with Google on migrating its data and applications to the cloud in December 2019. It said it will move all of its workloads to virtual machines running on the Google Cloud by the end of the year, at which time it will retire two data centers that host more than 1,000 servers between them.

Keurig Dr Pepper said it selected Google because of the “stability and resilience” its cloud platform offers. It used Google Cloud’s Live Migration service to transfer the majority of its data footprint to Google, without any disruption to its business.

“The migration to Google Cloud has been seamless and was a key project in our merger integration and modernization efforts,” said John Gigerich, Keurig Dr Pepper’s senior vice president and chief information officer.

Finally, Google’s new partnership with Orange SA., France’s biggest telecommunications firm, covers data, artificial intelligence and cloud computing.

Orange said it’s planning to build a next-generation data analytics and machine learning platform that will take advantage of Google’s expertise in cloud technologies, analytics and AI. The partnership will enable Orange to offer a new generation of 5G-based edge computing services, which it says will be central to meeting consumer and enterprise requirements for low-latency and high-speed services in the future.

“Google has been a long-term partner of Orange and, as Google is eager to invest in Europe — and especially in France — to develop new data centres, this is the perfect time to work on new services and opportunities in French and European markets,” said Orange Chairman and Chief Executive Stephane Richard.
