Flashpoint acquires CRFT to expand its security-related lineup

Business risk intelligence startup Flashpoint today said it has acquired security automation provider CRFT Inc. for an undisclosed price.

Founded in 2019, CRFT offers no-code automation for security teams of all sizes to automate everyday tasks without custom software development or outside consultants. The service is designed to assist security teams focus on strategic and proactive efforts rather than playing “catch up” while streamlining operations and reducing analyst burnout.

CRFT’s cloud-native platform requires nothing to deploy, scale or maintain, since the company takes care of reliability monitoring, logging and performance. The platform offers a variety of advanced automation uses in key areas of cybersecurity management including threat remediation, incident response, provisioning and governance.

“Unlock missing capabilities of your stack with seamless integration into popular security tools, cloud services and enterprise applications,” the company says on its website. Some use examples of integration include support for Zoom Video Communications Inc. and Splunk Inc.

CRFT is fairly new and it was not generally available to the public prior to its acquisition, with a waitlist for the service in place. The service is offered on a tiered basis starting with a free level, and users pay different rates based on how much of the platform they use.

The acquisition of CRFT’s no-code security automation into Flashpoint’s existing product suite gives the latter firm a number of new cybersecurity-related products. “The acquisition of CRFT enables us to bridge that gap for security teams with no-code automation and packaged expert playbooks to support critical workflows, whether detecting and remediating malware, discovering and combating account takeover or identifying and mitigating a physical threat,” Flashpoint Chief Executive Josh Lefkowitz said in a statement.

Under the deal, CRFT co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Austin McDaniel is joining Flashpoint as chief automation architect. Austin previously held roles in key architecture and product development at JASK Inc., Swimlane and Google LLC.

It’s not known if CRFT had raised venture capital funding prior to acquisition. Flashpoint, formally named EJ2 Communications Inc. had previously raised $83.3 million from investors that included Bank of Montreal, Jump Capital, Cisco Investments, Greycroft, Bloomberg Beta and Leaders Fund.
