Cohesity’s data protection software now available as a service
Data management software company Cohesity Inc. said today its core data protection software is now available via software as a service to all customers for the first time.
Cohesity DataProtect delivered as a Service is available in the U.S. today through resellers and the Amazon Web Services Marketplace. It’s billed by the company as an all-in-one data protection service for enterprises that backs up and protects data stored both in the cloud and in on-premises data centers.
The company said the new service is the first of many to come as part of its Data Management as a Service offering that was announced in partnership with Amazon Web Services Inc. in October. Cohesity said at the time that it believes most enterprises and midsized businesses would like an easier way to back up, secure, govern and analyze their data with consumption-based pricing.
Cohesity said DataProtect delivered as a Service allows customers to be more hands-off, since it takes care of managing the data infrastructure for them.
There are other advantages too, Cohesity said. For example, Cohesity DataProtect delivered as a Service also reduces the time it takes to set up data backups to just a few minutes, as the service automatically discovers customer’s workloads for them once a secure connection to their cloud and on-premises infrastructure has been created.
It also helps ensure more efficient use of available bandwidth to speed up backup and data recovery operations by only transmitting blocks of data when they have been changed. The service supports multiple workloads too, including VMware and Network Attached Storage file data, with support for Microsoft 365 and other enterprise databases to be added in the coming months.
The company also announced the future availability of Cohesity SiteContinuity delivered as a Service, which will enable automated disaster recovery and failover of mission-critical applications and data to the cloud. That will help enterprises reduce infrastructure costs substantially by using on-demand cloud resources instead of secondary data centers that come with a full cost burden, the company said.
Cohesity SiteContinuity delivered as a Service will be made available to select customers as part of an early-access preview soon, with general availability planned for spring 2021.
