AppDynamics strengthens visibility into the modern IT environment to boost business insights

The growing adoption of hybrid cloud has made modern IT environments increasingly complex, causing many enterprises to look for tools to help them to monitor and manage their diverse portfolio.

Visibility over the general performance of the applications is one of the capabilities sought by organizations, according to Linda Tong (pictured, left), general manager of AppDynamics LLC, a Cisco company.

“For a lot of these developers, as they start to migrate their applications and modernize them with AWS and all the great services that are available, we can partner to help them with that modernization effort while giving them visibility into the performance of those applications to make sure that they don’t miss a beat,” Tong said.

Tong and Dave McCann (pictured, right), vice president of AWS migration, marketplace and control services at AWS, spoke with John Furrier, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, during AWS re:Invent. They discussed the challenges of organizations when migrating to the cloud, the benefits of AppDynamics solutions, and the details of its partnership with AWS. (* Disclosure below.)

The ability to ingest data

During the digital transformation, companies can move dozens to thousands of applications to the cloud, depending on the size of their operations. When busy with this modernization, enterprises often need support to manage part of their infrastructure, so solutions like those of AppDynamics become central toolkits for new emerging managed service providers across the globe, according to McCann.

“We have over 300,000 customers worldwide only in AWS Marketplace who are subscribing to software and provisioning out to hundreds and thousands of developers, all of whom are using their own AWS accounts,” McCann explained. “So, in that provisioning and subscription experience, we work deeply with the AppDynamics team to meet that really seamless experience from discovery to provision to meter and billing.”

On the interoperability front, customers want the best tools that work well with other AWS services so they can really have a modern DevOps pipeline for applications that are moving to a more CI/CD model, according to McCann. That’s why AppDynamics is integrated with AWS and allows customers to purchase its services directly through the AWS Marketplace.

In addition to helping enterprises gain visibility across their entire stack, AppDynamics promises to reveal meaningful insights to help them take action on performance issues and better manage their business.

“The value of AppDynamics is our ability to be able to ingest data from your cloud native applications, your traditional applications, all different sources of domain data that you want to get, including things like security data, so we can start to correlate that in a meaningful way and then tie that back to business insights,” Tong concluded.
