SmartBear expands automated testing support for DevOps teams for mobile devices

SmartBear Software, a provider of software development and quality assurance tools, today announced the integration of TestComplete, its user interface test automation tool, with BitBar, its native mobile device cloud.

With this integration, DevOps teams and business users will now be able to create codeless mobile tests in TestComplete and then use those test scripts in BitBar across numerous devices.

In addition, the company has expanded support in TestComplete for testing enterprise applications such as Salesforce, Oracle EBS and SAP.

“Whether you are a developer, tester or business analyst, you need to test, and you need to do it quickly,” said Prashant Mohan, senior product manager at SmartBear. “By scaling tests across several browsers and devices in a matter of clicks or testing complex applications such as SAP and Salesforce, TestComplete provides a complete platform for automated testing of every application type, leading the industry in breadth of capabilities.”

According to SmartBear, this integration comes at a critical time because the proliferation of web and mobile applications is pushing more companies to scale faster than ever before.

DevOps team members in the enterprise often wear many hats, and not all of them are coders. Having a codeless automation tool at the ready can clear up bottlenecks and open up developer time.

Nontechnical users and citizen testers can now use TestComplete to access device labs in the cloud. This makes them more efficient and useful than ever. Furthermore, because they’re not developers, their difference in experience could even provide critical insights that might be missed by the rest of the team.

By integrating BitBar, TestComplete’s capabilities will be greatly expanded. BitBar automates testing by presenting real Android and iOS devices at scale on a cloud platform in test framework agnostic terms. That means it can support any native mobile test and all languages, such as Java, Ruby, Python and JavaScript, making it versatile.

The best part about BitBar is that “real” means the real world. Testers can remotely control devices for manual app testing in order to replicate or troubleshoot issues reported by customers and verify real-world user experiences. Devices are thoroughly cleaned after each session.

That means that the devices in the cloud are the first line of quality assurance keeping the code clean for customers. But when the screen or buttons become a concern – because the real world is full of weird physical behaviors – it’s possible to go to the actual phone shipped from the manufacturer and test it directly to see if that’s the problem.

“The DevOps motion is truly underway, and testing can no longer be a bottleneck,” said Mohan.

The new release of TestComplete is available today with the additional integration of BitBar and delivers a seamless experience for testing desktop, web and now mobile applications.
