Trilio announces updated Kubernetes backup platform with Velero monitoring tool

Cloud-native data protection firm Trilio Data Inc. today announced the latest version of TrilioVault for Kubernetes, a backup and recovery platform that enables restoration and mobility of entire Kubernetes workloads on-demand.

TrilioVault for Kubernetes v2.1 offers a range of new Kubernetes management functionality including visibility and insights into Velero-based backups as well as enhanced disaster recovery capabilities for multicloud infrastructure deployments.

Velero is an open-source tool to safely backup and restore, perform disaster recovering and migrate Kubernetes cluster resources and persistent volumes. Kubernetes is software that orchestrates the operation of software containers, which in turn package applications and their components in a way they can run in multiple computing environments.

With the new release, Velero Backup Monitoring is now included in TrilioVault for Kubernetes. The service lets users monitor Velero backups directly from the TrilioVault Management Console, giving users a complete view and insights into the status and performance of TrilioVault and Velero backups.

“Velero users asked us to help them seamlessly grow into an enterprise-class data protection platform while providing continuity across Trilio and Velero backups,” said Prashanto Kochavara, director of product at Trilio. “With TrilioVault for Kubernetes v2.1, Velero users gain clarity in their backup and restore operations. Velero operators can now see what’s working and what’s not in a single pane of glass, in real-time and within the context of the entire multi-cloud environment.”

TrilioVault for Kubernetes v2.1 also has new disaster recovery features that are said to deliver significant business continuity enhancements for cloud-native applications, including a new disaster recovery plan. The plan provides a guided workflow to select backups from different repositories, specify namespace mappings and reconfigure the captured data and metadata across multiple applications at one time.

Trilio says the new discovery recovery plan helps organizations implement a disaster recovering strategy for their business-critical applications and then continually test the recoverability of those applications in a multicloud environment.

Lastly, the company also announced new Kubernetes distribution certifications from Rancher, IBM Cloud and VMware Tanzu Grid. The IBM Cloud certification follows through TrilioVault first becoming available to International Business Machines Corp. customers in September.

TrilioVault for Kubernetes v2.1 is immediately available via Trilio’s Free Trial, Free Basic Edition and Enterprise Edition plans. Trilio is displaying the new version at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe this week.
