Juniper Networks launches new version of Apstra to simplify deployment

Juniper Networks Inc. today announced a new version of its turnkey automation software-only solution Apstra to simplify deployment.

The first new release of the software since Juniper acquired Apstra in January, Apstra 4.0 builds on the multivendor capabilities of the Apstra solution. Added in the release is support for VMware NSX-T 3.0 and Enterprise SONiC, in addition to previously supported data center switching from Juniper, Nvidia Corp.’s Cumulus, Arista Networks Inc. and Cisco Systems Inc.

The software also has new intent extensions and connectivity templates that provide a more simple and flexible way of connecting attached systems. Juniper is also now offering Apstra with Juniper Networks QFX Series switches and SRX Series Services Gateways.

Apstra 4.0 takes intent-based networking to the next level by extending intent to connections for attached systems through open extension and connectivity templates. The company describes this as a method of essentially ensuring standardized operations in customized ways, including new connectivity templates that enable operators to create reusable and validated templates.

These templates facilitate operations with bulk, accurate adds across the entire fabric in minutes, including servers, workloads and devices, while checking that everything in the network is functioning properly.

The support for VMware NSX-T 3.0 and Enterprise SONiC enables organizations to benefit from Apstra’s reliability and time-savings value. The service includes built-in validation for virtual machine connectivity with Apstra’s NSX-T integration assures and optimizes operation between the virtual and physical networks. With support for SONiC, Juniper says, it’s the only provider with commercial support for the management of Enterprise SONiC, offering customers additional options for building cloud-level, large-scale data centers with open networking.

“Organizations are looking for new ways to enhance the experience of users and operators in the data center,”said Mike Bushong, vice president data center at Juniper Networks. “Our Apstra software provides the perfect foundation by delivering closed-loop automation, analytics and assurance for intent-based networking across vendors. In operations, speed is nothing without control, and with the newest Apstra extensions and multivendor solutions, teams can make changes more quickly with predictable outcomes.”

Juniper said the new integrations complement Juniper’s existing ecosystem of technology partners while also underscoring the company’s commitment to preserving Apstra as an open and multivendor system.
