Watch live: The AWS Startup Showcase: The Next Big Things in AI, Security & Life Sciences

Ecosystems play a major role in the tech industry. Instead of dog-eat-dog, companies support each other for mutual benefit.

This is especially true when it comes to major players nurturing startups. Take the Amazon Web Services Inc. startup ecosystem. Household names Airbnb Inc., Tinder LLC, Spotify Technology SA and Reddit Inc. are just some of the companies whose journey started on the AWS platform.

Looking for the superpowers brought by being part of the world’s leading cloud provider, cloud-scale startups flock to AWS. The company’s ecosystem is home to hundreds of thousands of innovators from across the globe. On June 16, Amazon Web Services Inc. and theCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s livestreaming studio, welcome tomorrow’s leaders in next-generation solutions leveraging cloud scale during the AWS Startup Showcase: The Next Big Things in AI, Security & Life Sciences event. (* Disclosure below.)

A special keynote will kick off the event, titled “The New Data Equation: Leveraging Cloud-Scale Data to Innovate in AI, CyberSecurity, and Life Sciences,” featuring Ali Ghodsi, co-founder and chief executive officer of Databricks Inc.; S. Somasegar, managing director at Madrona Venture Group; and Jeff Barr, vice president and chief evangelist at AWS.

Everyone is welcomed to join the free event, where experts from some of the most exciting startups in the AWS ecosystem will be showcasing their solutions. From an empathic artificial intelligence setting out to fix the U.S.’s healthcare problems to AI solving its bias issues, cloud-based security for cloud-based business, and life sciences research and development automation in the cloud, attendees will have an insider’s view of the latest technological advances in AI, security and life sciences.

Cloud is about shifting IT labor to more strategic initiatives, changing the operating model and rapidly scaling,” said Wikibon Chief Analyst Dave Vellante, co-host of theCUBE. “Often overlooked with cloud, however, is innovation, and so often that comes from startups. TheCUBE is excited to present this startup showcase and highlight the innovations in AI, security and healthcare, an industry that is ripe for transformation.”

AWS ‘truly strategic’ for startup success

“We scaled on AWS massively and started seeing the opportunities with most of our customers being on AWS,” Ariel Assaraf, chief executive officer of Coralogix Ltd., told theCUBE host John Walls in a recent conversation. One of the startups presenting in the AI/ML track of the upcoming showcase, Coralogix became an AWS Global Startup and completed the CompetencyWell-Architected and ISV Accelerate programs, as well as onboarding to the AWS Marketplace to make it easier for customers to access their platform.

“We’re getting a lot from AWS, and we are partnering with them to solve problems together,” Assaraf said.

Thomas Hazel, founder and chief science and technology officer of fully managed log analytics platform ChaosSearch Inc., views AWS as “truly strategic.” The company leverages AWS S3 as a data store, proving the truth behind Hazel’s statement that: “ChaosSearch would not exist without AWS.”

“Better together” is how Jenny Brinkley, director of AWS Security, described AWS’ approach to fostering startups. By encouraging startups that are taking new approaches to the problems facing enterprises, AWS helps them overcome roadblocks on the entrepreneurial path and ensures that its customers have access to the latest innovations.

Coralogix and ChaosSearch will be joined by representatives from Ahana Cloud Inc., Fiddler Labs Inc. and Explorium Ltd. to give attendees an insider view of how they are using AI to solve problems with data management, analysis, security and compliance during the AI/ML track of the AWS Startup Showcase: The Next Big Things in AI, Security & Life Sciences on June 16.

Startups move faster when they build on AWS

Startups can win or lose by their velocity,” stated Allie Miller, global head of machine learning business development for startups and venture capital at AWS.

AWS provides startups with the velocity needed for technical development, AI/ML training, new projects, hiring, closing funding rounds, launching and closing enterprise deals, “and a million other things,” Miller told theCUBE.

Before joining AWS as director of security, Brinkley co-founded a data security start-up that was built on AWS infrastructure. So she knows firsthand what cloud native startups need to meet the fast-paced demands of the digital world.

“We found the right resources, forward-thinking and partnership that allowed us to move at speeds we never imagined were possible,” she stated.

The ability to accelerate research and bring solutions to market faster is a benefit to everyone and every industry. It is important for security, where business health is critically affected by breaches. But it is especially critical in healthcare and life sciences, where lives hang in the balance.

Cloud-native life sciences startups use AWS services to accelerate research, rethink patient care, and maintain clinical and operational continuity, Jared Saul, M.D., global lead, healthcare, and life sciences startups and investors at AWS told theCUBE.

“We invent … we think long-term … and we make security and operational excellence our top priorities,” he said.

The healthcare and life sciences track of the AWS Startup Showcase will include product demonstrations and technical deep dives from Olive Inc.Abacus Insights Inc.Aizon and TetraScience Inc.

Continuous delivery creates a service-orientated mindset

The old mindset of “one and done” has changed to “one and continue,” according to Rakesh Narasimhan, president and chief executive officer of cloud application security and compliance startup Anitian Inc.

“The apps are changing. The functionality is changing. The things they interact with are changing. That’s the beauty of the cloud,” he said. Our job is to make sure that we’re keeping up with you not just in securing you and making you compliant, but also keeping you compliant.”

Anitian is one of the companies participating in the security track of the showcase, alongside cloud security platform Sonrai, API security solution provider Cequence Security Inc., cloud security automation solutions company Lacework Inc., and cloud security automation specialist Orca Security Ltd.

Solutions showcased during the event are tackling data overload, agility and other urgent problems facing companies as they navigate the as yet uncharted waters of the data-driven economy. The linking force behind them all is the Amazon cloud.

“We know digital transformation is transforming industries, every industry is feeling it. We can see and understand the significance of inventions like AWS: It’s an amazing invention, the power of it and what it delivers to us,” Brendan Hannigan, chief executive officer of Sonrai, told theCUBE.
