Veeam exec details milestones through 10-year HPE alliance

Big names in the IT and cloud computing spaces banding together to form strategic partnerships are nothing new.

We’ve indeed seen a version of it with the likes of Apple and Mastercard. One element that is rare, however, is these alliances lasting into the long term — like the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co./Veeam Software Corp. partnership.

“When you look at alliances or partnerships overall, it’s crazy that you can maintain this depth of partnership, this depth of relationship, and this success for 10 years,” said David Harvey (pictured), vice president of strategic alliances at Veeam. “I mean, HPE was our number one alliance that we started working with when we started Veeam.”

Harvey spoke with Dave Vellante, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, during the HPE Discover event. They discussed Veeam’s longstanding partnership with HPE, the current SecOps and hybrid cloud landscapes, and roadmaps for the future of both companies. (* Disclosure below.)

The focus of both companies for the future

HPE and Veeam have been able to develop an extremely fruitful synergy encompassing the cross-pollination of ideas, technology sharing agreements and co-branded offerings.

We’re really pleased that the investment from both sides has maintained and grown through that time period. This is a great event for us, and that’s why we’re so proud to be the top sponsor this year and supporting the charge for Discover,” Harvey stated.

Beyond a recap of the projects that have transpired between both companies over the years, the pair also touched on a three-tier strategy as the future blueprint for the Veeam/HPE alliance.

The first product tier is data recovery. With the rise in the popularity of cloud data solutions, companies are increasingly eager to invest in effective data recovery solutions as a way to bolster their bottom lines and mitigate any economic shocks — and both companies are poised to respond to this demand, according to  Harvey.

The second product tier is data protection. In this regard, Veeam seeks to work collaboratively with HPE to simplify its offering.

The reason for that [simplification] is that if you look at the diversity of the portfolio HPE has, you want unification, regardless of what product you’re buying from HPE; you want to make sure that you’re working with solutions that work with all of those different parts of it. And so, that simplification element of data protection is huge,” Harvey said.

The third area is data protection as a service.

“We’ve been working with GreenLake for a good number of years now, and it’s one of the fastest-growing areas of our partnership,” said Harvey, pinpointing the tangible industry leanings leveraged by both companies as part of their partnership.

When asked about the perception he hopes that outside stakeholders have about the alliance between both companies moving forward, Harvey pointed out the unique work ethic and attitude shared by both companies. He also expressed confidence in the longevity of the partnership, as long as both companies stick to the consistency in product quality and service delivery that’s gotten them this far.
