Workflow management for cloud deployments startup env0 raises $17M

Cloud deployment workflow management startup envZero Inc. today announced that it has raised $17 million in new funding to expand its “infrastructure as code” platform and accelerate visibility, predictability and governance of cloud deployments.

M12, Microsoft Corp.’s venture capital fund, led the Series A round. Other investors included Boldstart Ventures, Grove Ventures and Crescendo Ventures.

Founded in 2018, env0, as it’s commonly called, offers a self-service cloud management platform for infrastructure-as-code or IaC architecture. The company’s service is designed to help businesses master cloud infrastructure and includes environment provision, cloud governance and workflow tools.

As noted when the company raised $3.3 million in 2020, IaC refers to the idea of managing and provisioning computer servers and other resources via machine-readable definition files, as opposed to physical hardware configuration or the use of interactive configuration tools. The concept has grown in popularity through the shift to microservices, or software that’s created as a collection of smaller single-function services to enable more flexible, independently deployable software.

Env0 argues that with many organizations worldwide relying on the cloud for critical applications and services, there is a new era in which the cloud becomes a double-headed entity that includes both code and cloud resources. The use of automated cloud management results in significant time savings and operational efficiencies.

The company’s service works with Amazon Web Services Inc., Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure and other cloud platforms with support for Terraform, Terragrunt and other IaC cloud deployments.

The company has seen substantial growth over the last 12 months as enterprises capitalize on the value of IaC automation. Notable clients include JFrog Ltd., Varonis Systems Inc., Pleo Technologies Ltd., BigID Inc., Salt Security Inc., Curv Inc. and Cobwebs Technologies Ltd.

“The majority of companies today are embracing IaC frameworks, especially Terraform, since manual cloud provisioning is no longer a viable option,” env0 Chief Executive Officer Ohad Maislish said in a statement. “However, those frameworks were not built as complete business solutions. Env0 is doing to IaC frameworks what GitHub did to Git, providing management, governance and collaboration capabilities.”

Including the new funding, env0 has raised $23.8 million to date, according to data from Crunchbase.
