Data accessibility and insight-driven business models key in return to pre-COVID normalcy

The world economy is reeling from the devastation dealt to it by the pandemic. Supply chains were entirely disrupted, consumer demand went to record lows, and several industries were all but shut down entirely.

As the world returns to normal, Cloudera thinks that data will be key in identifying business gaps and making sound decisions.

“It’s really about democratization. If you can’t make your data accessible, it’s not usable,” said Michele Goetz (pictured, right), vice president and principal analyst at Forrester Research Inc.. “Nobody’s able to understand what’s happening in the business, and they don’t understand what insights can be gained or what are the signals that are occurring that are going to help them with decisions, create stronger value or create deeper relationships with their customers due to their experiences.”

Goetz and Cindy Maike (pictured, left), vice president of industry solutions and value management at Cloudera Inc,. spoke with Dave Vellante, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, during the Cloudera “Transform Innovative Ideas Into Data-Driven Insights” event. They discussed how businesses can make data more accessible to accelerate the insights-to-execution process. Practical examples

As an enterprise-facing cloud-based business, Cloudera’s very raison d’être lies in accelerating the digital transformation efforts of its global clientele. In doing so, a litany of examples exist of companies who, with the help of Cloudera solutions, have excelled in making their data flexible and accessible in order to compete in their respective fields.

“Out of the few (companies) that stand out at the top of my mind, one is IQVIA and what they’re doing with real-world evidence and bringing together data across the entire healthcare and life sciences ecosystems. Bringing it together in different shapes and formats, making it accessible both internally as well as for the entire extended ecosystem,” Maike added, providing real-world corporate examples.

Every data strategy should focus first on the enterprise, from top to bottom, being both data-aware and data-driven, according to Maike and Goetz. Data awareness is the recognition of the value of data to an organization, its various sources, and its maintenance over time, they explained.
