CircleCI announces webhook integrations with Datadog and Sumo Logic

Circle Internet Services Inc., a continuous integration and delivery platform for DevOps teams, today announced the launch of CircleCI webhooks, a feature that enables developers to build integrations with third-party apps that react to CircleCI workflow status notifications.

As part of today’s release, CircleCI’s CI/CD platform will integrate with Datadog Inc.’s new CI Visibility tool that allows developer teams to visualize pipeline metrics. It will additionally integrate with Sumo Logic Inc.’s Continuous Intelligence Platform to add workflow event monitoring as well.

“As teams continue to increase the release frequency of complex apps and services, observable CI/CD pipelines are more critical than ever,” said Apurva Joshi, chief product officer of CircleCI. “With CircleCI webhooks, developers can build high quality, customizable integrations across their CI/CD, analytics, monitoring, incident management and other applications to enable more informed software decisions.”

CircleCI’s webhooks allow developers to build their own automation systems using real-time notifications and triggering systems. Third-party solutions no longer need to query CircleCI for notifications. Instead, they receive information as it happens with no lag time.

This way, developer teams can make better decisions about workflow events when they happen or inform incident management tools about pipeline updates, such as job completion or build failures. That in turn results in faster reaction time, better visibility into the deployment processes and less time lost catching up.

For example, the Datadog platform consolidates metrics, traces, logs and more about an organization’s cloud environments in order to help customers troubleshoot potential issues. With the addition of CircleCI’s webhooks analytic data about builds, Datadog users get an extra layer of information to make informed decisions about events occurring within their workflows.

“Maximizing developer time and productivity have never been more important,” said Borja Burgos, director of Product at Datadog. “Thanks to CircleCI webhooks we’ve been able to build a new integration in Datadog to deliver extraordinary levels of visibility and insights into continuous integration.”

In the case of Sumo Logic, the webhooks integration collects events from CircleCI such as workflow and job completion status, which allows teams to track the performance and health of continuous integration and deployment pipelines better.

“Collecting, enriching and correlating data from across disparate sources in the modern DevOps toolchain is one of the biggest challenges of today’s engineering teams,” said Drew Horn, director of business development at Sumo Logic. “With CircleCI webhooks, developers can now — in just a few clicks — push detailed, automatically instrumented pipeline data to Sumo Logic’s Continuous Intelligence Platform to benchmark and optimize their software delivery performance.”
