Overcoming digital transformation complexities: Splunk APAC VP weighs in

COVID has sped up the rate and urgency with which organizations are pursuing their cloud adoption journeys.

One ongoing workplace reality is that companies aren’t going to have their entire workforce operating from a consolidated location. As these companies leverage cloud technologies to manage their remote workforce, several challenges have become apparent, including in the Asia-Pacific region.

Most CEOs and CTOs believe that it’s not a matter of whether or not they’ll suffer some sort of ransomware hack or attack, but when,  according to Simon Davies (pictured), vice president of APAC at Splunk Inc.

We’re seeing a lot of increased spending in cybersecurity as this becomes more and more critical for  organization’s to detect threats. So on-the-ground experiences are certainly matching what we’re seeing in the research. And, all of that is a data problem. Security is a data problem.”

Davies spoke with Lisa Martin, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, during the Splunk .conf21 Virtual event. They discussed cloud-led digital transformation and its increasing complexities for APAC organizations. (* Disclosure below.)

Opportunities to resolve digital transformation challenges

As companies begin to gain a handle on their cloud operations, newer technologies can provide opportunities to innovate and get around operational complexities, according to Davies, who presented three key takeaways for organizations to be successful in the Digital Age.

“I think visibility is the first one. Making sure we’re capturing the right data, and so the ability not only to capture the data, but to time-sequence the data so I can actually understand what’s happened and when,” he stated.

The second takeaway is control — ensuring that the right people have access to the right data. “But we control that in a way that is specific to the organization,” Davies said.

The last takeaway centers on compliance, including creating rules around critical infrastructure, as well as environmental requirements. These should be at the forefront of an organization’s mindset, according to Davies.
