Talend introduces continuous data quality monitoring and Snowflake integration

Talend Inc. today is stepping up its efforts to promote its concept of data health – a combination of validity, popularity, completeness, discoverability and usage – with a new range of services and features built on top of its data integration platform.

The new Fall ’21 release includes a service that uses the company’s data quality technology, frameworks, dashboards and specialists to help companies continuously monitor data quality. It’s offered on a subscription basis and targeted at businesses that lack the resources to hire experts to operate their own data quality programs. The service includes pre-configured dashboards and automated features tuned for common business uses.

Talend is also rolling out Native Trust Score for datasets stored in Snowflake Inc.’s cloud data warehouse. Trust Score is a Talend service that automatically indexes data sets as they are loaded to measure quality before use.

A new self-service application program interface-sharing feature in the Talend Data Fabric enables data engineers to create and share APIs for processes, applications and analytics without requiring the involvement of developers. It’s also introducing an unlimited-use version of Stitch, a platform for bulk loading of data from multiple sources into data warehouses that Talend acquired in 2018.

Talend promotes its Data Fabric as a combination of data integration and governance capabilities to actively manage the health of corporate information.

The new and updated services are the first since Talend went private in a sale to private equity firm Thoma Bravo LP in March. The company said the sale would allow it to focus on growing its customer base and the first half of this year “was the best ever, with annualized recurring revenue growth of 17% to $308 million and new bookings up 32%,” said Jamie Fiorda, vice president of product marketing.

The company has keyed in on data health as a messaging point, saying it’s urging customers to establish “an organizational discipline around data care and maintenance,” Fiorda said. “Data health is a team sport.”

The Native Trust Score service for Snowflake applies Stitch data quality metrics by connecting to the cloud data warehouse and launching a crawler that uses Java user-defined functions to generate a Trust Score. While saying that Trust Score has been well-received since it was announced last year, Fiorda said, “we don’t have a lot of enterprise customers using it today.”

The company hopes integration with Snowflake will jumpstart interest. It plans to release a similar capability for Google LLC’s BigQuery later this year.
