The consumerization of tech is merging with B2B, says Boomi

Once an organization has been able to connect all of its disparate silo data sources, it can concentrate on solving problems with the resulting backbone.

It’s not just about moving data around, but creating new business models and experiences with the data integration, according to Ed Macosky (pictured left), senior vice president and head of product at Boomi LP.

“It’s not just about moving data between systems, that sort of thing,” Macosky said. “It’s about connecting with your end users, your employees, your customers.”

Macosky and Mandy Dhaliwal (pictured right), chief marketing officer at Boomi, spoke with Lisa Martin, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, during AWS re:Invent. They discussed how integration platform as a service is enabling business model add-ons and experiences for enterprise customers. (* Disclosure below.)

Connecting the data allows for new models

The duo came up with some examples of how connecting disparate data sources was helping Boomi customers and explained how one customer was able to create a solution for a previously unrealized issue — the COVID 19 contact tracing requirements for educational establishments.

“There are problems that need to be solved,” Dhaliwal said. In that case, a university client, who was bringing students back to campus and was looking to provide a connected campus experience added the health aspect.

“That’s a real modern-day problem,” she added. However, the university developed an iPaaS integration, using the Boomi product, for its connectivity and was able to add that safety element more easily.

“The consumerization of tech has hit B2B. It’s merging,” she said, giving the example of digital identity management in a university environment encompassing safety by connecting access control with the new-found health needs.

Making things faster is also a benefit to connecting users more through integrating data.

“Adding intelligence, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to your automation to make you go faster and faster,” Macosky said. “So there is this convergence of [robotic process automation] and iPaaS that’s happening in the market.”
