Coupa helps orgs unlock new avenues of profitability with added BSM observability

One thing businesses crave nowadays is observability across all their processes. It’s why they invest in analytics and big data.

Coupa Software Inc.’s global technology platform for business spend management carries a high degree of observability, according to Rob Bernshteyn (pictured), Coupa’s chief executive officer.

“We have over 2,500 customers around the world,” Bernshteyn said. Every one of these customers has their own missions and visions; they’re pursuing their goals. But, in order to do that, they need energy, they need gas in their tank, right? And with every dollar we save them, we give them that.”

Bernshteyn spoke with theCUBE industry analyst Lisa Martin during the Coupa Inspire event, an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed Coupa’s intriguing future plans for the BSM space. (* Disclosure below.)

Taking the blinders off

The work Coupa is doing across its client spectrum could be likened to taking off blinders that previously prevented these enterprises from spotting areas of improvement in spending efficiency. By helping them save money, they can glean more value and drive increased profitability.

“We allow them to become more efficient in the way that they work, the way that they have visibility, the way that they collaborate one another, the way that they think about fulfillment of demand through supply chain design, or sourcing activities, contract negotiations, procurement, sourcing, treasury, the way they manage that cash. It’s unlocking that firepower,” Bernshteyn said.

Coupa works across a myriad of spend areas, some of which include supply chain design, procurement, sourcing and treasury. By helping companies become more efficient in these areas, Coupa helps them unlock funds and other resources they can channel toward realizing other visions and goals, according to Bernshteyn.

Of course, the pandemic has played its part in the company’s rising importance. The subsequent disruption of global supply chains meant that organizations needed to tighten up their channels, and Coupa’s suite of digital products helped many of its client companies overcome the financial brunt of those disruptions.

“[They are] faced with the acute issue of supply chain needs and the agility of their supply chain. So we help them figure out different ways to transport the goods and services they need, different freighting routes in real time through our AI capabilities,” Bernshteyn stated.

Coupa’s record numbers for the year ended 2022 also speak to its burgeoning industry importance. The company posted new business growth of over 60% YoY, a 34% increase in subscription revenue, and annual company revenues of $725M.
