Forescout to acquire threat detection and response startup Cysiv

Cybersecurity company Forescout Technologies Inc. said today it has inked a deal to acquire threat detection and response startup Cysiv Inc. for an undisclosed price.

Founded in 2018, Cysiv offers a 24/7 security operations center as a service that promises proactive threat hunting with a managed security stack for hybrid cloud, network and endpoint security. The company’s service combines all the elements of a modern SOC, including a cloud-native security information and event management platform, a team of experts, actionable threat intel, service level agreements and runbooks.

Cysiv argues that a 24/7 SOC focused on fast, accurate detection and response to cyber threats is an essential part of a security strategy for organizations of all sizes. But the cost, complexity and frustration of building, staffing and operating an effective one put that beyond the reach of all but a few organizations.

Key features of Cysiv’s offering include a cloud-native, co-managed platform suited to managed service providers and managed security service providers that need to deliver MDR, co-managed SIEM and other advanced managed services to customers. The platform is vendor-agnostic and can ingest security telemetry from any source, along with other important contextual and infrastructure data.

Forescout will leverage Cysiv’s threat detection engine to analyze a wealth of asset and network communications data automatically collected by Forescout’s platform. The data, across information technology, the “internet of things,” operational technology, the “internet of medical things” devices and other essential data sources, is claimed to enable improved threat detection and response so customers can operate more securely and efficiently.

The acquisition will assist Forescout customers to leverage actionable threat intelligence from comprehensive data collected by Forescout and analyzed by Cysiv.

“Organizations need to be able to reduce the billions of data points on their networks to a handful of actionable true threats – automatically,” Wael Mohamed, chief executive officer of Forescout, said in a statement. “Together with Cysiv, Forescout will provide customers with the most powerful platform for automated cybersecurity across their digital terrains.”

Coming into its acquisition, Cysiv had raised $26 million, according to Crunchbase. Investors included Trend Forward Capital and Forgepoint Capital. The acquisition is expected to close in July, subject to meeting closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

Forescout was previously a public listed company but announced it was going private in a $1.9 billion acquisition by Advent International and Crosspoint Capital Partners in February.
