Apple Inc. is preparing to launch a wide range of new products in the second half of the year and early 2023, according to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Describing the forthcoming product releases as a “flood of new products,” Gurman makes some expected predictions, such as four new iPhone models. However, he goes further, predicting that Apple will launch new Apple Watch variations, several Macs with M2 and M3 chips, a mixed-reality headset, high-end iPads, updated AirPods Pro earbuds, a fresh HomePod and an upgraded Apple TV.

If Apple releases them all, flood is an accurate description and it would be an unusually busy product release schedule for Apple, if not unprecedented.

Similar to previous reports and the subsequent release of iOS 16 on June 6, Gurman writes that the new iPhones will have a revamped locked screen that works hand-in-hand with the new always-on-display in the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro models. The feature, expected to be similar to Apple Watch, will allow the Pro models to show widgets that display weather, calendars, stock and other data, while the screen remains at a low brightness and frame rate.

The iPhone 14 Pro is also expected to include an improved front-facing camera, a new rear-camera system that includes a 48-megapixel sensor, thinner bezels, A16 chips and a redesigned notch. The non-Pro models are expected to use the A15 used in the iPhone 13, but the 5.4-inch model is expected to be replaced by a 6.7-inch model.

All the new iPhones are expected to continue to use Lightning adapters for charging, but Gurman believes that a transition to USB-C is likely in 2023. The switch to USB-C is thanks to a law passed in the European Union earlier this month requiring smartphone makers to ship their devices with USB-C no later than autumn 2024.

On the tablet side, Gurman expects Apple to release a lower-end iPad with an A14 chip and 5G later this year that will feature a USB-C connection. Also likely are two new iPad Pro models, 11-inch and 12.9-inch models with M2 chips. This year or next year, Apple could also release iPads with bigger displays between 14 and 15 inches.

M2-powered Macs are also expected before the end of the year. An M2 Mac mini and M2 Pro Mac mini lead the expected lineup. Gurman also expects M2 Pro- and M2 Max-based 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros and an M2 Ultra- and M2 Extreme-based Mac Pro.

Any speculation about future Apple products would naturally include Apple’s long-fabled mixed reality headset. Gurman writes that the latest internal version runs the M2 chip with 16 gigabytes of RAM.

In headset news, famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote on Friday that he believes the Apple headset will be “the most complicated product Apple has ever designed” and “a game-changer for the headset industry.”

Kuo is currently predicting that the headset will now be announced in January 2023 and then released sometime later.
