APEX tackles enterprise pain points, including managing data across disparate environments

Some organizations continue to struggle to manage data across disparate and fragmented environments.

Dell Technologies Inc.’s APEX cloud services platform works to help solve that pain point, and the platform recently notched one year of general availability.

“We added our very first full-stack managed service for cyber recovery this week,” said Akanksha Mehrotra (pictured, right), vice president of cloud and as-a-service marketing at Dell Technologies. “The feedback from customers over the past year and then the conversations we’ve had [recently] have been phenomenal.”

Mehrotra and Chad Dunn (pictured, left), vice president of product management, HCI, CI and software-defined storage at Dell, spoke with theCUBE industry analysts Dave Vellante and Lisa Martin during the Dell Technologies World event, an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed new developments for APEX and the feedback from enterprise customers. (* Disclosure below.)

The full APEX breakdown

APEX is intrinsically a portfolio of “as-a-service solutions.” Thus, it agglomerates parts like cloud services, security and object storage — each of which can be customized and implemented as bespoke, specific to customer requirements.

The main pain point APEX set out to solve, and where it has found considerable success, is in ensuring cohesive operations in vastly distributed environments, according to Mehrotra.

“Our goal in our vision is to create a consistent and a secure experience across all of these different silos of data. It’s something that they really want more of from us,” Mehrotra said.

Consuming solutions in the “as-a-service” format is especially useful to companies experiencing a dearth of the skills required to solve certain pressing IT snags, especially security.

“Many of them don’t necessarily have all the expertise to be able to defend against attacks themselves,” Dunn said. “And so that’s where an as-a-service solution, like the one that we’re offering, really makes sense to them. They’re much more apt to consume as-a-service when the competency doesn’t necessarily already exist in their IT organizations.”
