Cybersecurity firm NetRise Inc. today released NetRise Platform, a new solution designed to provide insights into shared vulnerabilities across extended “internet of things” firmware within an organization.

The new cloud-based software-as-a-service platform analyzes and continuously monitors XIoT devices’ firmware, the device-specific hardware embedded into a chip. The platform takes firmware images and dissects them, presenting all key data, artifacts and risks in an easy-to-consume interface. The NetRise says the service reduces the time and cost of firmware security programs allowing organizations to find and remediate previously undetected issues quickly.

Benefits of the NetRise Platform include complete visibility and monitoring to uncover vulnerabilities across an organization, prioritization of tasks and ensuring new issues do not arise. Prioritization includes assessing the vulnerabilities against compliance adherence, its application against Software Bills of Materials, misconfiguration and overall risk.

The platform offers risk comparisons of new firmware versions to existing versions, the ability to query a firmware repository when new vulnerabilities are identified and correlation across all monitored devices.

“Traditional XIoT security products have little-to-no visibility into the underlying components of these devices. As a result, XIoT firmware has been treated like a black box, as end users have had minimal control over it,” said Thomas Pace, co-founder and chief executive of NetRise. “With the release of the NetRise Platform, organizations now have complete visibility and continuous monitoring of XIoT firmware vulnerabilities and potential points of exposure to fill in the gaping hole that exists in most security programs.”

The release comes after NetRise recently announced a strategic partnership with critical infrastructure security company Fortress Information Security LLC. Under the partnership, NetRise offers Fortress Information Security’s global customers access to its firmware binary analysis platform. NetRise also gained access to a route to market for power, oil and gas and manufacturing clients that Fortress serves.

Fortress Information Security was last in the news in April when it raised $125 million in funding from Goldman Sachs. NetRise is also venture capital-backed, having raised $6.8 million in October, according to Crunchbase.
