Okta Identity Governance platform unifies identity and access management

Identity platform provider Okta Inc. has today announced the general availability of its identity governance platform that unifies identity and access management with governance.

Okta Identity Governance offers a modern unified IAM and governance solution focused on improving an organization’s security and compliance posture, helping organizations mitigate everyday security risks with improved information technology department efficiency. The company says the solution is aimed at rethinking the way governance is undertaken and builds on its cloud-native, intuitive technology with a focus on ease of delivery and use.

Okta notes that cyber breaches have long had wide-ranging implications for enterprise companies. Thanks to the increased frequency of breaches, an executive order issued in 2021 called for improvements to cybersecurity among organizations. Identity governance and administration tools, which were previously focused on compliance, have become a critical component of any identity-centric security ecosystem, but, traditional solutions are typically siloed and do not meet the demands of a cloud-first world.

Okta Identity Governance offers three new governance capabilities to the Okta Identity Cloud. The first, Okta Access Requests, automates the process of requesting access to applications and resources. With self-service capabilities integrated with collaboration tools, users are delivered streamlined, frictionless access, according to the company.

Okta Access Certifications creates and manages access review campaigns. It offers periodic reviews into critical resources, including revoking access automatically to ensure that all users have the right level of access across all resources.

The third capability, Enhanced Governance Reports, offers reporting capabilities to help meet audit and compliance requirements. Administrators can provide an audit report of who has access to what resources, who approved the access and how they got it.

Combined with lifecycle automation capabilities powered by Okta Lifecycle Management and customization and extensibility offered by Okta Workflows, customers can leverage Okta to automate the process of granting their workforce the correct levels of access to the resources they need, according to the company.
