Cloud infrastructure is growing as more organizations transform digitally. In fact, cloud investment  is now outpacing on-prem infrastructure expenditure.

With more businesses moving their services to the cloud, it raises the issue of cloud services not moving quickly enough for many organizations, with several non-native applications and programs unable to run efficiently and securely in the cloud. Prosimo Inc. saw this problem and created an infrastructure that delivers fast and secure application experiences for its users, according to Ramesh Prabagaran (pictured), co-founder and chief executive officer of Prosimo.

“What do you need? What do you care about now? Because the apps are in the center of the universe, and who’s talking to it?” Prabagaran said. “It’s another application sitting either in the same cloud or in a different cloud, or it’s a user connecting into the application. We look at the networking security operational requirements required for these apps to talk to each other or the user to talk to the application.”

Prabagaran spoke with theCUBE industry analyst John Furrier for a CUBE Conversation during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed multicloud solutions, solving the problem of allowing apps to talk to each other, the supercloud and more. (* Disclosure below.)

Putting it all in the cloud

One issue developers frequently encounter is allowing two applications to talk to each other in an efficient matter without compromising sensitive data. Whatever solution they end up using, Prosimo is able to tweak it and ensure it’s working at maximum efficiency, Prabagaran explained.

Multicloud and supercloud solutions are also growing in popularity, with large enterprises sometimes storing workloads in various cloud services. This requires more maintenance and configuration to keep operations running smoothly.

“You could also go down the path, and you’re increasingly seeing this, ‘Hey, I’m using the cloud as a backbone,’” Prabagaran said. “Cloud providers have invested massive amounts of dollars to make sure that the infrastructure reaches there, almost to the extent that every user in a metro city is ten milliseconds from the public cloud. And so they have allowed for that. Now, you can use cloud backbones to get the availability, the liability and whatnot.”

Prosimo provides software that sits inside the customer’s administrative cloud, delivered as a service. The company has a branch of reputable use cases, primarily centered around cloud networking and moving freely around the cloud, with clients employing Prosimo solely for these cases. The company also brings NetDevOps to the equation, combining the best of DevOps with the added component of networking, according to Prabagaran.

What pain points are companies like Prosimo working to solve? Network security teams are frequently butting heads with cloud teams because the cloud does not move fast enough, and organizations don’t have insight on the “new set of use cases that are coming about,” Prabagaran said.

“We are seeing patterns emerge in terms of new use cases almost every single day. Some days it’s like completely on the other end of the spectrum: ‘I’m only serverless and service mesh.’ On the other end, it’s: ‘I have a package application, I’m moving it to the cloud,’” he stated.
