Cloud-native data protection firm Trilio Data Inc. today announced the general availability of a new service that offers faster levels of replication, restoration and migration of Kubernetes data and metadata from any cloud or storage platform to another.

Called “Continuous Restore,” the service offers what the company says is near-instantaneous recovery times for cloud-native applications. Continuous Restore is said to help customers comply with disaster recovery protocols, protect against ransomware attacks and migration of applications to meet cost and performance objectives.

On the disaster recovery side, users can achieve availability objectives and recover from failures or cloud region outages in seconds or minutes rather than days or weeks. Using Continuous Restore, the recovery time objective is claimed to be improved by over 80% versus traditional methods.

For application migrations, Continuous Restore allows information technology teams to optimize performance and achieve better total cost of ownership by choosing the infrastructure best suited to current needs. The capability also enables organizations to unify their infrastructure, especially those that have grown quickly and adopted various compute platforms and storage solutions to meet unique needs.

Developers can also use Continuous Restore to increase the velocity of continuous integration and deployment by staging data for multiple test/dev environments. Test/dev environments can be spun up in seconds with continuously replicated production data, accelerating the push of validated changes into production. Trilio says DevOps teams can use this capability to test their “restore” protocols more consistently to ensure they will work when needed.

Other features include data curation from edge clouds and full distribution across multiple heterogeneous clouds. Regardless of where they reside, applications can tap into the data and be brought online in seconds, achieving high levels of recovery time objective.

“Trilio’s Continuous Restore capability is a revolution in data protection because it moves the industry beyond ‘back-up your data anywhere, anytime’ to ‘your data is available everywhere, all the time,’” explained Trilio Chief Executive David Safaii. “Continuous Restore essentially enables organizations to create a ‘cross-cloud’ infrastructure fabric, where your data is continuously replicated on multiple, heterogeneous clouds all at the same time.

Alongside the general availability release of Continuous Restore, Trilio also announced enhanced support for Red Hat OpenShift in the release TrilioVault for Kubernetes v3.0.

The new features include the ability to manage and apply data protection policies for “fleets” of Kubernetes clusters in alignment with Advanced Cluster Management and near-instantaneous OpenShift application portability and recoverability across any cloud or storage via Continuous Restore.

The service supports OpenShift on Amazon Web Services Inc. and Microsoft Corp.’s Azure. Support for Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization will also be delivered during the fourth quarter.
