Okta announces new products and partnerships at annual Oktane22 conference

It was a busy day for Okta Inc. as the identity platform provider announced new product innovations and partnerships at its annual Oktane22 conference.

Topping the list are new innovations for Okta Workforce Identity Cloud that are said to strengthen its single control plane for managing identity across all enterprise resources and users. New innovations include anti-phishing filtering across user types and resources, plus unified access management, governance and privileged capabilities through a user-friendly solution.

On the anti-phishing side, Okta’s new security features for Workforce Identity Cloud include protection against credential-focused phishing for any user across any device at scale. Using the service, customers can extend anti-phishing to the entire ecosystem of workforce users who are accessing an enterprise’s resources through heterogeneous endpoints and operating systems.

Advanced phishing-resistant access capability for FastPass provides phishing resistance for all managed and unmanaged devices across macOS, Windows and Android. WebAuthn Allow List helps enterprises lock down WebAuthn enrollment to only hardware keys issued by a specific organization.

Enhanced passkey management prevents users from enrolling with multidevice fast identity online credentials as passkeys, pre-empting any potential risks of unmanaged and unsecured devices accessing sensitive applications. Newly enhanced security checks for unmanaged devices also give security teams deeper insight into the devices attempting to access their applications and data.

To keep access to resources fluid but safe, enhanced controls for WebAuthn+ passkey management are said to enhance security checks for unmanaged devices, including bringing your own device and undamaged devices.

Okta Customer Identity Cloud

On the new product front, Okta announced Okta Customer Identity Cloud, a customizable customer identity solution that helps organizations resolve the tension between security, privacy and user experience.

Okta Customer Identity Cloud comes in two types — one for consumer apps and the other for software-as-a-service apps. For consumer apps, the service helps organizations streamline registration and login across any device, stack or platform for higher customer acquisition and retention, a better experience and a fuller view of users.

Features of the consumer apps version include passkeys support, a replacement for passwords that make it faster and easier to sign in; Highly Regular Identity, a new toolset that allows customers to safeguard riskier transactions with extra security and policy control; and Security Center, which leverages Okta’s threat insights to create a single pane of glass for security teams to monitor suspicious activities.

Okta Customer Identity Cloud for SaaS apps is designed to assist companies in onboarding new users and managing authentication across business customers without diverting development resources away from their core product.

Features include Okta Workforce Enterprise Connection, a service that makes it easy for SaaS app builders to offer integrations to the Okta Workforce Identity Cloud. A feature called “Organizations” enables SaaS companies to manage and model identity for business customers as organizations and configure custom, organization-based branding and policies.

Partnerships

The last major announcement at Oktane22 was new partnerships between Okta and DigitalOcean Inc., Netlify Inc. and Vercel Inc. to simplify identity for developers.

Under the partnership, the companies are committed to bringing expert advice and easy integrations to where developers spend their time, with an ultimate vision of providing security customer identity in one click or less within each platform environment. The companies are also designing easy-to-integrate solutions that are free for developers to use regardless of platform, device or infrastructure.

All three are now partners with Okta through its developer platform. Further information about the partner integrations will be released in the coming months as they become available.
