How TCS is using the cloud to future-proof businesses

During the onset of the pandemic, the cloud made enterprises resilient, and this scenario continues based on the need for ongoing business transformation.

Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. sees the cloud as a stepping stone toward enhanced business growth and value based on new models, according to Krishna Mohan Reddy (pictured, left), vice president and global head of AWS business unit at TCS.

“Now, the cloud is actually more focused on future-proofing the businesses,” Reddy said. “The initial days it was more about future-proofing the technology and architecture. But, it has evolved to future-proofing businesses. That means implementing new business models, bringing in agility, measuring the business value. And, that’s where we see a significant traction.”

Reddy and Sowmya Rajagopalan (pictured, right), vice president and head of Americas, travel transportation and hospitality at TCS, spoke with theCUBE industry analysts Savannah Peterson and Paul Gillin at AWS re:Invent, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how TCS facilitates digital transformations in the enterprise world with the help of Amazon Web Services Inc. (* Disclosure below.)

Revamping legacy systems using the cloud

Modernization has become a key point in the post-pandemic era. Therefore, TCS helps enterprises with their digital transformation journeys. One example is its partnership with Avis Rent A Car System LLC, according to Rajagopalan.

“Avis Car Rental had monolith mainframe applications,” she stated. “There were many outages. That is where we all came in. How do we, first of all, simplify the complexity of the landscape? Then, second is, modernize the legacy application? Third is, how do you scale it?”

TCS partnered with AWS to bring in effective solutions, including mainframe modernization using AWS cloud. As a result, Avis was able to save millions of dollars, according to Rajagopalan.

TCS sees AWS as an ideal partner when it comes to providing business value and growth. For instance, TCS was able to develop an intelligent solution for the airline sector, called TCS Aviana.

“We are a 50-plus-year-old company … we are categorized as industry verticals, and we have horizontal services where AWS is one of the horizontal services that we have,” Rajagopalan said. “We brought in our airline contextual knowledge and the United Airlines landscape to bring in a TCS solution that we developed … an intelligent operations solution for the airline industry.”
