Lumen enables companies to ‘pick and choose’ cloud services across vendors

Lumen Technologies Inc.’s recently released Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) Solutions allows information technology and security leaders to adapt to the changing workplace and move toward a more distributed labor force.

The Lumen marketplace enables businesses to pick and choose cloud solutions from multiple vendors for their specific requirements, according to Darren Wolner (pictured), senior director of product management, SASE/SD-WAN, at Lumen.

“Work from home has become an extremely important way of doing business, and we want to give that flexibility,” he said. “With a solution like this, we’re able to provide our customers with flexibility to run their businesses any way they want.”

Wolner spoke with theCUBE industry analysts John Furrier and David Nicholson at the recent VMware Explore event, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed the release of Lumen SASE and its possible use cases. (* Disclosure below.)

SASE can be self-managed or professionally managed

Organizations that wish to manage their services themselves can do so with the SASE manager, which enables changes to be made to services quickly and easily. For customers who prefer professional management, Lumen can provide customized services tailored for efficiency and cost savings, according to Wolner.

“You need to make a change to your service, not a problem. It’s simple,” he said. “You want to add another site, you go back into the SASE manager; you could purchase another site. We’ll take care of all of it. Everything is automated.”

Lumen SASE can integrate with VMware to automate the entire security stack, meaning existing VMware customers don’t need to move away from the ecosystem.

“When a VMware customer comes to us and says, ‘I have a ton of experience with VMware, and I don’t want to move away from it but I can really use the management and the infrastructure that you guys have,’ I’m able to say yes,” Wolner stated.
