VMware and Deloitte accelerate cloud verticalization for industry-specific roles

Industry-specific needs are leading to cloud verticalization for compliant operations, vital insights and enhanced security.

The VMware Inc. and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu LTD. partnership is propelling the vertical cloud narrative, given that software as a service and platform as a service are gaining traction, according to Ranjit Bawa (pictured, left), principal and cloud leader at Deloitte.

“We’ve been working together for close to a decade … for more horizontal clouds, we’re going to start to move into vertical clouds that support industries, sectors and sub-sectors,” Bawa stated. “AWS has formed a really good foundation and a set of common frameworks that people can use to build upon. And then with VMware as well, we’ve started to build these vertical clouds — insurance, life sciences, healthcare, and all kinds of other sectors, including manufacturing.”

Bawa and Monty Bhatia (pictured, right), vice president of global systems integrators at VMware, spoke with theCUBE industry analysts Savannah Peterson and Paul Gillin at the recent AWS re:Invent conference, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how VMware and Deloitte are enhancing the vertical cloud sector for industry-specific objectives. (* Disclosure below.)

The multicloud trend

The huge disruptions happening in the enterprise world have led to a multicloud approach, and VMware is well positioned in this space, with Deloitte being a system integrator, according to Bhatia.

“From a technology standpoint, one of the biggest trends that we are seeing … two years ago, when you looked at it, it was all about hyperscaler, public cloud, cloud first,” he said. “Now we’re seeing more of a multicloud approach. We’re seeing that pull back towards hybrid cloud and supercloud. So that’s a big trend we’re seeing around the multicloud and the modern application space.”

Through the VMware-Deloitte partnership, vertical clouds become a reality based on the technology stacks incorporated, according to Bhatia, who said that AWS helps with the scalability aspect.

“We do have some capability built around industries, but that’s where our partnership with Deloitte is very important to us because they have all these industry clouds,” he pointed out. “We have the tech platform that provides that. And then [with] three-way partnerships with hyperscalers like AWS, we can bring the scale and everything together to serve our customers.”
