Canva embraces AI with a new suite of brand management features and tools

Graphic design tool startup Canva Pty. Ltd. is enhancing its artificial intelligence capabilities with the launch of a new suite of brand management features and AI design tools.

The new tools are built to help teams and organizations of all shapes and sizes to communicate visually and produce content at large scale. Founded in 2012, Canva’s customer base now includes 120 million monthly users – an increase of more than 35 million since the launch of Canva’s Visual Worksuite in September 2022. More than 15 billion designs have also been created using Canva.

Canva’s already substantial customer base, which includes companies such as FedEx Corp., Starbucks Corp. and Zoom Video Communications Inc., now has access to a range of new and enhanced tools to assist in creating social media graphics, presentations, video content and documents.

Topping the list is an expansion to the capabilities of Canva’s Visual Worksuite with Brand Hub, a range of new tools and features built to help teams and organizations create with efficiency and stay on brand. Brand Hub offers Brand Kit, a feature that allows users to create a Brand Kit with logos, colors, fonts, icons, imagery, graphics and brand guidelines.

A feature called Magic Replace allows users to update brand assets instantly across an entire company with a single click. Brand Templates enable users to design and share templates to create on-brand, compelling content quickly and Brand Folders allow users to keep branding organized and accessible.

Brand Guidelines is a new feature that allows an organization’s brand guidelines to be automatically and contextually surfaced within the Canva Editor as teams create designs, ensuring everyone is equipped with the knowledge to represent their brand best. Another new feature, Brand Controls, gives teams the confidence to be sure they’re designing on-brand content.

Canva has also added AI into its Visual Worksuite with new tools that accelerate the design process while unlocking new capabilities.

Features include Magic Design — the ability to upload an image and select a style — with the AI then curating a selection of personalized templates. Magic Edit allows users to add or replace anything in an image and Magic Eraser cleans up unwanted details in images with Magic Eraser.

With the application of AI, Canva users can “magically” generate new presentations by prompting the editor. Magic Design then generates a range of presentations with an outline and content on each slide.

The new Canva Assistant unlocks the best of Canva, allowing users to search for eye-catching elements, get recommendations for images and layouts, or generate custom AI content to elevate their designs.

Other new features include Beat Sync, which automatically matches video footage to the soundtrack, an AI-powered translation feature supporting over 100 languages, and Magic Write, a service that creates content from a simple text prompt.

Canva has also debuted an array of highly requested features from its global community as well as “sprinkling extra magic into existing ones.”

“Ten years ago, we launched Canva driven by a vision to empower everyone to design anything, no matter their skills or experience,” Canva co-founder and Chief Executive Melanie Perkins said in a statement. “Today, we’re thrilled to advance that vision by introducing a whole new range of features focused on empowering brands to scale their creative outputs.”
