CrowdStrike enhances cloud security posture to counter growing threats to critical infrastructure

CrowdStrike Holdings Inc. is continuing to enhance its cloud security posture.

The company’s Cloud Security Assessment solution has been integrated with the CrowdStrike Asset Graph, allowing for rich cloud asset visualizations and great visibility of cloud resources, according to Amol Kulkarni (pictured), chief product and engineering officer of CrowdStrike. The company’s Cloud Infrastructure Entitlement Management also ensures that traditionally effective attacks, such as privilege escalation, are made much harder.

“Giving customers a snapshot view, one single view to say, ‘These are the identities, these are their permissions,'” Kulkarni said. “This is where you can trim them down because these are the dependencies that are present.”

Kulkarni spoke with industry analyst Dave Vellante at theCUBE @ Fal.Con 2022, during last September’s exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed CIEM and other CrowdStrike developments. (* Disclosure below.)

Increasing security for previously air-gapped technologies

Due to a large amount of business infrastructure not being designed with security in mind and instead relying on not being networked outside of the business, the transition toward a connected model has made a lot of previous infrastructure insecure, Kulkarni pointed out.

“We had the Colonial Pipeline breach … and that really opened people’s eyes like, ‘Hey, nation-state adversaries are going to come after critical infrastructure,’” he said.

CloudStrike is working toward making this infrastructure safer via its Falcon Discover for IoT module. This allows businesses to have visibility into their internet of things and operational technology assets to help them minimize the risk of a potential breach.

In addition, Falcon Fusion is a platform that can help enterprises adapt their cloud applications for the increased security risk that comes with hybrid cloud models, Kulkarni explained.

“Falcon Fusion is our automation platform built right into the security cloud. And what that enables customers to do is to encode their business process the way they want and leverage the platform the way they want,” he concluded.
