Reimagining the hybrid cloud: VMware and HPE expand joint solutions
Great companies do great things, and when teamed up, they can achieve innovation and reach strides never thought possible before.
VMware Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. have teamed up for more than 20 years, creating a swathe of joint solutions focused on improving a cloud and hybrid cloud infrastructure experience for its clients, such as HPE GreenLake, Project Thunder and VCF hybrid cloud, according to Joseph George (pictured, left), vice president of global marketing at HPE.
“We’re seeing a renewed interest now as customers are looking at their entire infrastructure, bottom up the stack and the notion of a hybrid cloud, where you’ve got some visibility and control of your data and your infrastructure and applications,” George said. “Customers want to live in a cloud environment. And so we’re seeing a lot of customers committing to that model, where they have applications and workloads running at the edge in their data center and in the public cloud in a lot of cases.”
George and Ricky Cooper, head of worldwide partner channel and commercial sales at VMware, spoke with industry analysts Dave Vellante and John Furrier at last year’s VMware Explore event, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed the growth of the partnership, joint solutions it’s created, and how they’re assisting their clients on their cloud journeys. (* Disclosure below.)
Innovation through partnership
The partnership has spawned a catalog that is growing by leaps and bounds, according to George. Their customers are interested in the pay-as-you-go model, as well as the ability to get a service-level agreement on the public cloud. Clients are also embracing multicloud solutions, recognizing the longevity of such infrastructure, according to George.
“What you’re seeing is very analogous to having a financial advisor manage your portfolio. You’re taking care of just submitting money. That’s what a lot of the customers have done with the public cloud,” George said. “But now a lot of these customers are getting savvy. They have been working with VMware technologies and HPE for so long, they’ve got expertise. They know how they want their workloads architected. Now we’ve given them a model where they can leverage the cloud platform to be able to do this, whether it’s on-premise, the edge, or in the public cloud, leveraging HPE GreenLake and VMware.”
Security, especially supply chain security, is also a big priority for both companies, with products such as HP GreenLake allowing for the ability to view all infrastructure at once. Privacy is also another key pillar for the organizations, focused on preserving the privacy of not just the companies they serve, but the individuals as well.
What’s to come for the future of digital transformations and infrastructure solutions?
“The multicloud is obviously at the epicenter. If you look at the results that are coming in, for a lot of our customers this is what’s leading the discussion,” Cooper said. “Now we’re in a position where we’ve brought many companies over the last few years, they’re starting to come to fruition. They’re starting to play a role in how we’re moving forward.”
